What is Texas Poker?

A Description of Texas Poker

Texas Poker is the same thing as Texas Hold'em Poker, and it is the game that is most commonly used in large poker tournaments. Texas Poker has several different versions including No Limit, Pot Limit, and Limit games. Each of these versions has a different betting limit structure. In No Limit Texas Poker there are not upper limits placed on bets that players can make. In Pot Limit Texas Poker the maximum amount of money that a player can bet at one time will be based on how much money is currently in the Pot. Finally in Limit Texas Poker the online casino will set both the minimum and maximum bet values. If a player wants to make a bet in Limit Texas Poker they have to bet at least the minimum amount, but not more than the maximum amount.

The Game of Texas Poker

Texas Poker is a poker variation that involves five community cards and two personal cards. At the beginning of the game each player is dealt two cards face down. These are the hole cards. The players look at their hole cards and decide if they want to play that hand or muck it. The first person to act will be the person sitting to the left of the dealer. They will need to pay the small blind, and the player to their immediate left will need to pay the big blind. The next person in the left rotation will need to examine their cards and decide what to do. They can call the blinds, raise the blinds, or fold. Each player at the table is given the chance to call, raise, reraise, or fold. During this first round of betting players are basing their decisions on the strength of their starting hands, and they are hoping that their starting hand will be one of the top ten Texas Poker starting hands. The top ten starting hands include: AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ(suited), JJ, KQ(suited), AJ(suited), KJ(Suited), and AK(offsuit).

When this betting round is over the first three community cards are revealed. These cards are called the flop. Another round of betting occurs and then the Turn is revealed. Again betting commences and then the final community card is revealed, the River. After the River has been revealed there is one final round of betting. At this point the player who has built the strongest hand using at least one of their hole cards is declared the winner.

To determine who has the most valuable Texas Poker hand a standard hand ranking system is used. The best hand possible, also called the nut hand, is the Royal Flush. A Royal Flush is made up of AKQJT (suited). The next most valuable hand is the Straight Flush, followed by Four of a Kind, then a Full House, then a Regular Straight, then Three of a Kind, then Two Pairs, then one pair, and finally if none of the players have any of the above card combinations the winner is determined by who has the high card.
